Utah Scientific Router Selected by Indiana PBS
Member Station for Digital Upgrade
SALT LAKE CITY — Feb. 13, 2007 — Utah
Scientific today announced the sale of a UTAH-400
SD/HD router along with an SC-4 control system and
four panels to WNIN-TV, the PBS member station in
Evansville, Ind.
The UTAH-400 replaces a 13-year-old analog router,
also from Utah Scientific, and is part of a complete
master-control rebuild that will transform the station
from analog to digital. WNIN’s UTAH-400 will
interface with five Miranda ImageStore Intuition HD/SD
channel branding co-processors and an Omneon Spectrum
media server, with everything controlled by a MicroFirst
Digital Automation System (DAS). WNIN anticipates
that its major facility upgrade will be complete and
online in May.
“Our current Utah Scientific router has been
rock solid for more than 13 years,” said Glenn
Puder, assistant chief engineer at WNIN. “So
when it was time to switch from analog to digital,
we naturally went back to Utah. We’re also really
impressed with Utah Scientific’s service and
support, primarily with the 10-year, no-fee warranty.
We look forward to a continuing relationship.”
The UTAH-400 is designed with a scalable matrix architecture
that allows users to expand from 8x8 all the way up
to 1152x1152. It also features redundant power supplies,
crosspoint cards, and controller cards. SC-4, the
heart of the router, allows interfacing with many
third-party switching systems. Its modular design
and advanced software make it readily adaptable to
any application, simple or sophisticated.
“Our years of experience in implementing our
routing switchers with other best-of-breed manufacturers
in these types of broadcast facilities has become
a real benefit to stations now making the leap to
digital,” said Tom Harmon, CEO of Utah Scientific.
“WNIN has designed a state-of-the-art playout
facility based on a proven equipment infrastructure.”
